Part I: Ioannina, September 19, 2024

Conference Venue: Dimitris Hatzis Cultural Centre

Description

There is a substantial debate today on the nature of Ovidian violence, as well as its motivation and impact, due to the exceptionally high number of stories of a violent and graphic content, such as sexual harassment, rape, incest, pederasty and suicide, narrated in the Ovidian corpus. The International Workshop on “Understanding Ovidian Violence” will offer interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary discussions on Ovid’s pattern of poetic attention to bodily boundaries repeatedly violated and reshaped, with the aim to add new perspectives to the on-going debate on Ovidian violence and its controversial popularity.

This international workshop brings together scholars from different academic disciplines to explore the Ovidian text from as many perspectives as possible, from Literary Studies to Psychoanalysis and Visual Studies.
