About
I am Assistant Professor of Latin Literature at the University of Ioannina, where I teach and research Latin poetry, gender and law in antiquity, and the reception of classical texts in modern literary and performative contexts. I also serve as Vice-President of the Gender Equality Committee — a role that aligns with my interest in fostering collaboration, inclusion, and international academic dialogue.
My path into Classics began in Cyprus and led me through Scotland and France, where I completed my PhD in Latin Studies at Paris IV–Sorbonne (summa cum laude). Since then, I have lived, taught, and conducted research in diverse academic environments — from the University of Cyprus to the University of Central Lancashire (CY), across departments of Classics, Law, and European Studies — always exploring how Greco-Roman literature continues to shape our understanding of the world today.
My research focuses primarily on Ovidian poetry and its legal and gendered dimensions, as well as its creative afterlife in contemporary literature and performance. I am the author of Médée et la rhétorique de la mémoire au féminin (L’Harmattan, 2018), and have co-edited volumes on the reception of Ancient Cyprus (De Gruyter, 2023) and Philhellenism (De Gruyter, 2021). I have published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and chapters in English, French, and Greek.
I regularly participate in — and co-organise — international conferences and workshops, most recently Understanding Ovidian Violence and Beyond (Ghent, 2025), Audience Response in Ancient Greek and Latin Literature (Ioannina, 2022), and The Reception of Ancient Cyprus in Western Culture (Nicosia, 2021). I also serve on the Editorial Board of Les Études classiques and as Series Co-editor of IconiC (Brepols).
My work is driven by a belief in the enduring relevance of classical texts and the power of literature to connect people across disciplines, generations, and borders. I explore how classical myths — especially those involving women — can meaningfully contribute to present-day conversations on gender equality, while also providing a critical lens through which to interrogate and transgress established cultural boundaries.
